Bean and Bond steal it

Bean and Bond turn it on

[tweetmeme source=”ChazGunningham” only_single=false] Think back to the many Olympics opening ceremonies of yore, rows upon countless rows of multi coloured gymnasts or drum beaters metronomically organised. Hours of precision boredom, oh yes, all very good, but where’s the soul, where’s the heart? The coup de grace came in Beijing 2008 where a cute girl was considered not cute enough, such that her voice was mimed by a cuter girl, so the total presentation would be as per the dictat of the communistas.

So it was a refreshing change that London’s opening ceremony involved a mix of trendy youth, history, class, modern music and dance, plus a swish of good old British comedy, including Mr Bean and a spoof Bond scene starring the real life Queen, aged 86, making her acting debut. “Good evening Mr Bond”, were her only lines, delivered with a twinkle in her eye. Rowan Atkinson’s comic timing was again to the fore with a Chariots of Fire skit. London 2012 has reinvented the opening ceremony, nice one.
